Hong Kong Beer Co. was launched as Asia’s first craft brewery to sell beer exclusively in bottles and kegs. Established in 1995 as South China Brewing Company, the current name was adopted in 2003. HKBC was acquired in 2013 by Devin Otto Kimble and Daniel Flores, the two founders of Singapore’s multiple award-winning Brewerkz Restaurant & Microbrewery, which they opened in 1997.Simon Pesch, a craft beer industry veteran with almost 20 years of professional brewing experience in the United States, leads the HKBC operations. Simon led a team of 20 at Pyramid Brewery in Berkeley, California. While there he managed to win 9 Great American Beer Festival medals, including 6 golds, and the Brewers Association, America's largest craft beer organization, bestowed Simon with the coveted mid-sized brewery Brewer of the Year award.
All of HKBC's beers are handcrafted in our 20-barrel, American-made system that was constructed by JVNW, Inc., one of the first microbrewery equipment specialists and still an industry leader.
Tasting Notes:
The White Pearl, Hong KongBeer Co.'s interpretation of a Belgian white ale, has a decidedly "PearlRiver Delta" character. The generous amount of wheat malt is complimentedby a bevy of local ingredients, including dried Mandarin orange peel, aged forover 3 years, and fragrant rose buds, sourced from local markets, as well ashoney from Wing Wo Bee Farm in the New Territories, one of the premier apiariesin Hong Kong. The use of a special yeast strain gives this straw-colored, unfilteredbeer a refreshingly complex, tart, and citrusy flavor overlaying a hint ofhoney and infused aromatics.
