Second Growth Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is one of theleading "super seconds" and a nearly first, because of the consistency of its quality. The unusual choice of grape varieties (there is a much higher percentage of Merlot than average) is a partial explanation for this wine's outstanding personality, marked by elegance, balance and finesse.Traditional methods and modern technology combine to make the most of the estate's prestigious soil.
Created and sold for the first time in 1973, Reserve de la Comtesse is the second wine of Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, and it benefits from the same soil, same technology as the great wine, and also its reputation. Not only Reserve de la Comtesse represent finesse and quality, the fact that it is available much earlier for enjoyment without busting your bank account makes ita great choice. Reserve de la Comtesse can easily last two decades in years of great vintage such as 2010.
“Very polished tannins that caress the palate. Full body. It's fruity, pretty and refined. The mineral and berry character comes through in a subtle way. Second wine of Pichon Lalande.”– James Suckling
Tasting Notes: A wonderfully exotic and expressive nose of cassis, apricot and classic Pauillac notes of pencil lead and cedar. A gorgeous satin-like texture envelopes layers of fruit. Cassis, blackberry and chocolate notes are underpinned by super-fine tannins and refreshing acidity. There is a real swagger about this wine, showing balance, purity and grace, but with a definite wow factor.
