Second Wine of Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte, Le Petit Haut Lafitte is made identically to the Grand Vin from the same vineyard by the same wine making team. Despite being a second wine, however, Le Petit Haut Lafitte is juicy.
Even for this second wine, grapes are whole bunch fermented, no skin contact or malolactic fermentation. Vinification takes place in French oak barrels. The wines are aged on their fine lees for 12 months with stirring.
"The organic viticulture and subtle wine making focus on intense attention to detail, giving the wines a precision and quality that few wineries in Bordeaux can attain. Smith produces wine with strength but also elegance;they are a benchmark for Bordeaux." James Suckling
