Japanese Harmony is released in the summer of 2015, are cent edition to the Hibiki lineup. It's a blended whisky representing a new foray into a younger, NAS expression, while it still utilizing many of the same whiskies from the original Hibiki blend, Hibiki 17 Years and Hibiki 21 Years. The largest component by volume is a cask-strength grain whisky from the Chita distillery. Other components include malt whiskies aged in a range of casks, including American white oak, ex-sherry, and Japanese Mizunara, along with as paringly incorporated smoky, Islay-style whisky touted as the blend's"hidden player".
Tasting notes:
Japanese Harmony has a light, floral nose. There's more complexity there, too, with oak, an herbal background and faint Sherry notes. On the palate, you’ll find that Sherry sweetness shining through, with candied fruits and honey, along with a creamy mouth feel. The whisky is smooth with no burn on a medium length finish, backed by lasting notes of oak and more honey. This is one that could be enjoyed either neat or on the rocks.
