Over the last decade,Jean-Paul Daumen, proprietor/winemaker at Domaine de la Vieille Julienne, hasemerged as one of France’s most compelling wine producers. In 2001, 2003, 2005, and 2006, has awarded 100 points to their topwine Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve. He will sacrifice anything tomaintain the highest quality in his wines.
The Domaine consists of 10hectares (Northern Chateauneuf-du-Pape) and 5 hectares (Cotes du Rhone), allfarmed biodynamically.’ Daumen’s winemaking philosophies are - old vines, tinyyields and no SO2 during vinification, mature aging in neutral tanks or wood, and bottling without fining or filtration — resulting in their distinctivecharacters.
As The Wine Advocate puts it“Thereare not many wines I’d rather have in my cellar, than the Châteauneuf du Papesfrom Jean-Paul Daumen’s Domaine de La Vieille Julienne.”
Tasting Notes : Vieille Julienne Chateauneuf duPape 2008 a superb wine in the vintage. It is dark and bright in colour withgourmet flavors of sweet spice, blueberry, licorice and plum. Shows the mix ofboth raisin and damson plum fruit that is the hallmark of the vintage, but thishas better density and even more ripeness than most. On the palate, this is adense wine, silky, powerful, with long after taste.
Food Matching : Rumpsteak, Angus Beef, Oxtail,Veal Shanks, Grilled bacon, Cantonese Hot Pot
