Balvenie Double Wood 12 year old single malt whisky gains its distinctive character from being matured in two wood types. Aged in refill American oak casks before finish off in first fill European oak Sherry casks, Double Wood is an excellent example of what the Balvenie distillery can craft, even for 12 years.

 

The traditional casks soften and add delicate character, the sherry wood brings depth and fullness of flavour and the final few months in the tuns allow the whiskies to marry harmoniously.

 

Tasting notes:

 

Nose sweet fruit and oloroso sherry notes, layered with honey andvanilla. Aromas suggest golden raisins and dried apricots.

 

The silky palate starts out moderately smoky, but glides into a richer, honeyed, sweet nutty profile that finishes with coco, cinnamon spices and clove accents.
